VHF radio I rarely use mine but think one is essential
SSB transceiver Can be used for email . Ham is more useful for nets.
short wave receiver uses much less power when just listening
Radar uses a lot of power, may cook you head,
won't detect logs containers small wooden fishing boats
Water maker Yes if you're prepared to maintain it. I'm not yet.
EPIRB Yes as last resort, at least your sinking will be recorded
Satellite Phone can you afford it?
personal EPIRB safety harness cheaper
Life Raft essential for monohull only. Not to stepped DOWN into.
AIS Cheap I suppose. Wont detect logs, containers, most
small wooden fishing boats
