Welcome
sharing info about sailing from Turkey to Asia via the Suez canal, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Oman and India.
insurance difficulties, SY ALICE
Just thought this information about yacht insurance for the trip to Thailand/Malaysia might be of interest to the forum readers.

As our runs out this month (May), I asked Pantaenius for a quote for the next year which includes spending this summer around the south of Turkey and the trip from November on towards Thailand. Our premium for the past year was 634 pounds with a 500 pounds excess.
The new quote was for a premium of 2500 pounds with an excess of 2500 pounds for the Red Sea and 10,000 pounds excess for the Gulf of Aden.
There were also restrictions as to crew numbers which they didn't specify and they said that
the trip had to be completed in 6 weeks!!
I will email them again and ask if it makes any difference if we go with the rally and exactly the number of crew they require. As you know Alice is an 11 metre Bavaria, with an insured value of 50,000 pounds so I would guess that they really dont want my business.
I will get back to you with updates. I would urge interested parties to check with their own insurance companies before taking off into the wild blue yonder of the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden area.
Best regards Alan and Hale
