It would be nice to know what weather reports are going to be available for the indian ocean and how every one is going to get them. For my part I have SSB but did not get good quality faxs in the atlantic . Some of them just plain unreadable. i have since changed my arial but have not tested it. I am humming and haring about buying new expensive credits for the SAT phone.

comments from other cruisers who make this trip suggest that a sat phone (which you have) is the best way to get weather information.  it's expensive though.
boats on the last vdg, were able to wait for weather windows in safe anchorages before tackling head winds south of Massawa and at the Bab al Mandab.  they were then able to get out of the Red Sea more easily.  
on longer passages too they can be used to download weather data.
we have just obtained one and will be using it.
